*The Luxemburger Gazette is an invaluable resource for Luxembourger ancestral research. The newspaper was published in Dubuque, Iowa from 1871-1918 with Nicholas Gonner as long-time publisher. The Luxemburger Gazette contained news items regarding Luxembourgers and Luxembourger settlements from throughout the United States. A complete index of names found in the Luxemburger Gazette was compiled by Jean Ensch of Luxembourg and was published in 1987. The PWHS Research Center houses both the microfilm of the Luxemburger Gazette and Ensch’s index.
**Schobermesse Books are an invaluable resource for Luxembourg ancestral research especially for Chicago-area Luxembourgers. “Schobermesse” is the American version of Luxembourg’s “Schueberfouer” or fall/harvest festival. Schobermesse was celebrated in the Chicago area from 1904 – 1967. After an absence of 33 years, Schobermesse celebrations began once again in 2001. The Schobermesse books contain history of the Grand Duchy, biographies of Luxembourger-Americans, and advertisements from Luxembourger-American merchants.
